Santorum surging in Iowa pros and cons

Rick Santorum has split the delegates with Mitt Romney in Iowa.  Though it appears that Romney will have won by a tiny fraction of the total vote (<20), Santorum can claim an important victory by surging past the field to tie Romney.

Since it is a possibility that we could see a Santorum candidacy, and it appears he is one of the only true conservatives with a chance at the nomination, I did some research on his positions.  The only thing I found that gave me some pause was his membership in the Knights of Malta.  The reason is that it would appear to be a conflict of interest of some sort, and I think it is something that will be investigated at least on the Web in the days ahead.  There was a time when fear of the papacy and Rome caused most Americans to discriminate against Catholics for the Presidency.  John Kennedy effectively changed that.

With the Pope recently calling for a one world economic order with teeth, I think that Santorum's deep connections to the Vatican will be a concern for evangelical voters, no less than Romney's profession of the Mormon faith.  Overall though I do feel much better about conservative Catholicism than I do about Mormonism, and Santorum is a guy who is hard to dig up dirt on.

May the Lord bring trusted leadership to our country in 2012.
